North Macedonia Teacher Training Builds Skills for the Classroom

Seventy-five teachers from across North Macedonia have taken part in the latest stage of EFI’s Teacher Training Program, gaining new knowledge, practical teaching approaches and resources to help make economics more engaging and relevant for their students.

Delivered in partnership with the Liberal Alternative Institute (LAI), the training brought teachers together in three cohorts — two in Macedonian and one in Albanian — for 40 hours of initial training. This combined four days of in-person learning at Popova Šapka with an additional day of online training.

But the program does not end when the initial training finishes.

Throughout the academic year, participating teachers will continue their professional development through weekly mentoring, additional online lectures and training, ongoing professional support, and access to teaching materials they can use directly in their classrooms.

Teachers share their experience

Teachers taking part have already spoken about the value of the program, from developing their knowledge to discovering new approaches they can apply with their students.

Their experiences demonstrate an important part of EFI’s approach to economic education: investing in teachers creates an impact that can extend far beyond the people taking part in the training itself. Each teacher has the opportunity to bring what they have learned back into the classroom, reaching students year after year.

The program also reflects the importance EFI places on strong local partnerships. Working with organizations such as LAI, which understand their education systems, teachers and communities, enables EFI to combine its educational expertise and resources with knowledge and capacity on the ground.
