Armenia Celebrates Record Student Participation in the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad

The Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad 2026 Award Ceremony was held on 14 May at the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, bringing together leaders from Armenia’s education, financial, and public sectors to celebrate the country’s top young economics students.

This year’s Olympiad reached more than 2,000 students from approximately 100 schools across Armenia — nearly double the participation seen in 2025 — highlighting growing interest in economics education and financial literacy among young people nationwide.

Organized for high school students across both Yerevan and Armenia’s regions, the Olympiad began with a nationwide School Round before 116 students advanced to the National Round, hosted at the American University of Armenia on 18 April.

Participants completed a written examination and interview stage designed to test economic understanding, analytical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Following evaluation by a distinguished jury of academic and public sector representatives, 14 students were named winners of the Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad 2026.

During the ceremony, schools were also recognized through the Olympiad’s “Ambassador School” and “Most Active School” programs for their continued commitment to promoting economics education within their communities.

A special moment during the evening was the inaugural presentation of the James Gwartney and Richard Stroup Award to Ashkhen Hovhannisyan, honoring her longstanding contribution to economics education and financial literacy in Armenia.

The ceremony concluded with the announcement of the three students selected to represent Armenia at the International Economics Olympiad, taking place in Olympia, Greece, from 10–14 August 2026.

The Tatevatsi Economics Olympiad is organized by the Center for Behavioral Decisions through its School for Economic Decisions initiative, in collaboration with the American University of Armenia, EFI, and the Economics Olympiad. The initiative is supported by the Central Bank of Armenia and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
